Fenugreek Seeds – What You Need To Know

Fenu is latin for “hay” so Fenugreek in turn means “Greek Hay”. Fenugreek seeds are something that I stumbled upon a few years ago and I can tell you that they are very interesting and provide many wonderful benefits. Fenugreek seeds are used in many recipes around the world for all different types of foods including dinner, desert, and teas. Fenugreek seeds are found to be most common in dishes from India, including curries, teas and pastes. Another area where They are very common is Ethiopia, here it is used also as an ingredient in many dishes but also as a medicine. These seeds are traditionally consumed raw in many parts of the world, where people will take a few fenugreek seeds with water in the morning and at night before bed.

What are some of the benefits of fenugreek seeds?

Arthritis (Prevention and Relief) – As we mentioned above one of the places that fenugreek seeds are most common is in India. India also happens to have one of the lowest rates of arthritis in the world. Studies have shown that drinking just one cup of tea made from fenugreek seeds can greatly reduce the chances of developing arthritis and also ease the pain for those who are already affected.

Increased Libido – Recently a study was done where a group of men were given fenugreek seeds extract. Their ages ranged from 25-52 and they were given small doses twice daily. After six weeks these men took a test and compared the results to a group that was not taking extract from these fenugreek seeds. The group taking the extract showed an increase in libido on average of 25%

If you are anything like me you have probably never even heard of fenugreek seeds until recently.  I was the same way, I stumbled upon them online a few years ago after hearing them mentioned on a TV show I was watching.  Intrigued by what the said by them I jumped online and began my search,  back then there was still very little info about this online and that was my main motivation to create this site.  These fenugreek seeds are something that everyone should at least give a try and add to their diets, there are too many benefits not too.  There are also some many recipes that call for fenugreek seeds you should have no trouble finding one that you like.  Even the rare person who does not enjoy the taste of fresh fenugreek seeds should still be able to find a dish where the flavor is not over powerful and is hardly noticeable.

Fenugreek seeds are a very interesting plant and although it is native to the Mediterranean, it can be grown almost anywhere provided it is not freezing cold.  It usually will grow up to be around 2 feet tall and bloom small white flowers during the summer month.  They also are relatively easy to grow and I keep a small patch of them in my backyard organic garden.  There is nothing like the taste of fresh fenugreek seeds that are home grown and I also love not having to worry about where it came from and if any chemicals were used during the growing process.  I would definitely recommend trying to grow your own to anyone who likes fenugreek seeds, it is pretty easy and I think you will love it.  Also when growing fenugreek seeds try to grow them organically if at all possible, it is not that hard to do.  Just make sure you buy organic seeds and soil and do not use any unnatural pesticides or fertilizers from non-organic animals.

Hopefully after reading all of this and exploring our site, you will at least give fenugreek seeds a try.  Thanks for reading and check back for more updates!
